I hope you are still reading along. It seems like years since I started this kit and I must admit that at times I wish it were finished! I know. Ive been saying all along how good this kit is, but as the old saying goes you can have too much of a good thing!
Please dont get me wrong, its still one of the best kits Ive made but just sometimes, I find my thoughts wandering to other kits. Something smaller and quicker, but then I see a completed wall like the one in the previous part and am happy to get back to the job in hand.
Sorry for that bit of a diversion, it wont happen againI promise! well, almost!
Right, we are now onto the last main section - Section E with its sunny yellow numbers. This is another of the bits and pieces sections. We have the final set of corner buildings, the main footbridge and a small round building. So, take a deep breath, relax and off we go!
Pic 1 Surprise surprise, another wall with windows. Im glad I made the light box, it really helps with all the valley folds for the windows.
Pic 2 As you will see, weve moved on quite a bit from the first picture, I guessed by now that you had seen enough of the art of wall making so Ive spared you at least 3 weeks work. These are all the bits that make up the buildings on the corner. As per my usual comment - look closely, because a few of these parts, especially the wall with the arch, will be almost invisible when the parts are glued together.
Pic 3 Yes, you guessedroofs!
Pic 4 And just to prove it, here they are again!
Pic 5 Another view of the same roofs, this time Ive added the chimneys. They are protected by the roofs, so I have added them rather than leave them till the end.
Pic 6 and 7. Two views of the small courtyard. Notice all the little extras that will be lost to view when the other walls are in place.
Pic 8 A slightly better view of those chimneys.
Pic 9 And now for something completely different! No doors or windows to be seen, just lots of bits that make up the main footbridge. The instruction drawing has a few problems with the numbering. But this isnt a problem, because the differences are obvious when you start gluing the parts together.
Pic 10 You may have noticed how much I go on about the fit of the parts. Here is a small example. This is one of the bridge buttresses and as you can see from the #11 blade, its very small. Note how the lines of the bricks line up between the two pieces. By the way, I should have mentioned this earlier, but the blade you see here is a blunt # 11 that I use for scoring folds. The blade I use for cutting is a #15a.Its a very small blade and I find it good for these small pieces. It is also much thinner than the #11 and this may be the reason why the 15a gets blunt much more quickly than the 11. Sorry for the interruption, back to the pictures.
Pic 11 and 12. The completed bridge.
Pic 13 It was too good to last, were back again to windows, frames and other fun bits. These parts make up the final small tower.
Pic 14 I couldnt help putting this in. Its the last window in the WHOLE building, again shown up against a #11 blade.
Pics 15 Here is where the window fits. I have added the pieces to the front of the wall to give it some depth.
Pics 16 The same wall with all the bits in place. The wall bends into a square U shape, so the window has to go in first then the wall is bent back on itself and a spacer added. Lastly, the blue top piece is added.
Pic 17 These are the pieces that make up the dome. The white tabs on the 10 roof sections are separate pieces, so there are 10 more pieces than expected. I cut out each piece then the teeth and glued them behind the roof sections. Once the glue had dried I scored along the roofline to ensure that the fold is in just the right place. One word of warning! As you can see I have laid out the roof pieces with the tiles showing. I did this for the camera but when I came to glue the pieces together I glued the first few in the wrong order. Thankfully most of the pieces are the same and I noticed my error in time. If I had had the pieces tiles down this problem would not have happened. The picture wouldnt have been so good tho!
Pic 18 Dome, roof and wall all in place.
Pic 19 The final touch was the bell tower. I couldnt resist cutting out the unwanted bits!
Thank you for staying with the plot. This time round it has had less of the step by step building so I hope I have kept your interest. For those who have been counting I now have eight separate buildings that need gluing together. I still have 3 more pages of parts and the grass to add. Oh! And a few roofs and chimneys left over from earlier sections. So, it looks as if the next section could be the last. Although from past experience, Im not counting on it. See you next time!
