Old Models

It is maybe some 35 years ago that I came across my very first paper model, and since then I have built many of them from time to time. Most were lost over time when my parents moved or were given away for exhibition in the shop where I had initially bought them. However, some of my old models still remain at my parents place, and I took some photos during our summer visit.

As so many of you I started with the ship models from Wilhemshavener Modellbogen, out of which I show here some photos for the battle cruiser Gneisenau. Although the model is some 30 years old, she is still in reasonable shape:

Somehow around 1980 a new publisher for ship models in the scale of 1 to 250 appeared on the market, the Alster Modell from Hamburg. They started with three models, two ferries and a set of two search and rescue boats. They had announced much more to come including models of the Prinz Eugen and the aircraft carrier Kiev, but then they vanished after a short time and were never heard of again. Their models of two German SAR boats from the Deutsche Gesellschaft zur Rettung Schiffbrchiger are still in my collection:

However, other publishers were still to come, and I built later ship models from JSC and GPM from Poland as well as cfm, Deutsches Schiffahrtsmuseum (DSM) and HMV from Germany, out of which the latest are some five to six years old.

Below are some photos given from those builds including the tug boat taken from the S&S catalog from 1996/97 and the coastal freighter Kanal from the DSM (a lovely small model I would recommend to everybody):
