Ever since I started the Cardmodelers web site I have asked what type of card models should I cover. My interest in card modeling is aircraft and ships and I have taken some heat for not covering other areas on the web site. I have tried to correct that in the magazine, asking for editors to help me in covering areas that I have little experience with.
When I started the magazine I asked for the dealers and designers of card models around the world to send me card models for review in the magazine. Even though these dealers and designers where very generous in sending models for review, we still did not get the range of models that I would have liked to see covered in the magazine. I then came up with the idea of buying models to be reviewed in the magazine and then selling the models to recover the money spent on the model. It is hoped that by using this method we can have a large variety of models to review.
As we purchase more and more of the models I am beginning to notice that there are some type of models that sell very quickly and some that just do not sell. Since the goal of this project is not to make money but just to recover the money that we spend for the models to review, we may run into problems. If we can not sell a particular type of model, I may have to stop buying those type models for review.
My concern over this is that we will again be limiting what type of models that are covered. I have just sent the second order for review models and I tried for as wide a coverage as I could. But this may be the last time I can do this. As certain types of models begin to pile up on the sell page I will have to stop purchasing these types models. The question is how do we keep the coverage of the magazine as wide as possible? It is up to you as the reader.
If you enjoy certain types of card models in particular you can do the following; when these types of models appear on the sell page buy them. If you do not want to do this then buy an extra copy of a model when you order and send us a copy of the type you would like to see reviewed. Finally, if you are not willing to do any of the above then write a review of a of a model and send it in for inclusion in the magazine.
