The Original:

Beside a large crater lake, the abbey of Maria Laach stands as an impressive Romanesque basilica with three naves, a cloister-type entrance portico and an unusual hexagonal baldachin. Its construction started in 1093 at the behest of Henrich II and continued until 1220. Until its secularization in 1802, the Abbey was the home of the Benedictines.

Today, Maria Laach stands out as one of the greatest masterpieces of German and European Romanesque architecture. You can find more about the church under http://www.maria-laach.de/ (German text).

The Kit:

The Schreiber-Bogen kit provides six A4 pages including cover, diagrams, cardboard, and about 70 parts. Its construction is an easy and fast task as the pieces go together nicely.

It is a quick build, giving you a charming model featuring the structures of an old Romanesque church. When comparing to the models of Gothic cathedrals you can feel directly the great developments in the architecture over time.
