North-Sea Ferry "Nordfriesland"
Scale 1:250
The Ship
The owner of the Ferry "Nordfriesland" is the Wyker Dampfschiff-Reederei
(W.D.R.), which operates the ferry service to the German North-Sea islands
Föhr and Amrum. The ship is a passenger and car ferry, was constructed
by the Husumer Schiffswerft and commissioned in 1995. The passenger capacity
is 1190 in summer and 655 in winter. The continuous main deck has room for
55 cars.
Specifications: Length 67,9 m, Width 15,4 m, Depth max. 1,96 m,
Speed 12,3 kn.
The Model
The model was constructed by Peter Brandt (who usually works for HMV) and
published by the German Marine Museum (Deutsches Schiffahrtsmuseum) in Bremerhaven.
There are no major difficulties, but the continuous decks need careful work.
The model is not over-detailed, for example there are no doublings for the
doors. The fit of the parts is good, the instructions are diagrams.

The cars on the model are free downloads scaled down to 1:250. The passengers
are Preiser figures (railroad personnel and passengers).
I know the original ship, because I spent two summer holidays on the island of Föhr. I also purchased some postcards sold by the shipping company showing their ferries. This makes the assembling much easier.
The photo above shows the continuous car deck.
