Keeping track of parts
Jim Nunn

As we all have seen some paper model designers will attempt to keep all the parts of the same number group on the same page while others will spread the parts over what seems like 20 pages. With the latter after a brief time the model pages end up looking like a paper doll made by a 2 year old, and the opportunity to loose a part becomes a certainty. To lower the probability of loosing a part I suggest the following method to keep track of the parts. Purchase several 5.5 x 8 inch (A5) manila envelops any style will do but I find envelopes with some sort of closing device are preferable. I mark the envelopes in groups of ten 1-9, 10-19, 20-29. I then cut the pages and sort the parts in to the appaproate envelope. I do not attempt to cut each part out, that would take to much time and the possibility of cutting off a part number is very likely. I try to cut the pages in to the largest possible groups of parts that will fit in the envelopes. I also find that by setting a goal of finishing an envelope a night, more likely a week a large complex model does not so look so daunting.
